About the Auld Hoose
This is one of the friendliest wee pubs in the county and so tight for space that when it's crowded, it always feels like party time.

In the summer, with the back door lying open, the sound effects from the hens, geese, ducks and cows on the adjoining farm, constantly remind you that this the heart of rural Ayrshire.

From the outside you would hardly guess it was a pub, it looks just like the other old cottages in the street.

Inside, it has a low, wood-beamed ceiling and horse brasses on the walls, a corner for the darts team and beyond the wood-panelled bar an area set aside for eating.

The regulars are polite and never curse. If they do, they pay into a swear box for charity and it's never very full.

Happy-go-lucky proprietrix Alexa McGregor is justly proud of a well-run shop and is ably assisted by popular part-timers.
